As I sit at my scriptorium desk to do Lectio Divina this morning my thoughts jump ahead to the upcoming solemnity of the Birth of John the Baptist. I start by talking to Jesus and let him know what a mystery his cousin is to me. “Your cousin, Jesus, has always been a mystery to me. He seemed a little wilder than you and fiercer in delivering his message. I often wonder how well you knew each other.

This day is a very special one for Cistercian nuns and monks. It is the day when we can recall His love for each one of us personally and for all whom we love. For me it is a day which holds some very, special memories. It was the day I chose to leave my former life and come to a Cistercian Abbey.
