Our Lady of the Mississippi Abbey

At Our Lady of the Mississippi Abbey, we celebrate the beauty of the land by our practice of good stewardship on the farm. The first foundation of Wrentham was made in 1964 when thirteen nuns settled on a high bluff overlooking the Mississippi River, just south of Dubuque.

We welcome retreatants to our guest houses year-round and are happy to share the beauty, peace, silence, and solitude of our surroundings with you. Our facilities consist of three houses. The Stone House, located at the bottom of a hill, is a five-minute walk from the Abbey. It is an old country farmhouse with three bedrooms and can be used for a group of up to 8 people. It is open from March 1st until October 31st.

The Retreat House at Our Lady of the Mississippi Abbey is on the same level as the monastery, only a short walk from the main entrance to the Abbey and to the Guest Chapel. It has 2 bedrooms and a sitting room which can also be used as a bedroom. The house is open all year except in December. The Cabin is a small, two-room hermitage, also a short walk from the Abbey and Chapel, and is open all year except during November and December.
