As Christians we take the transcendent for granted. We talk about a Creator that is Other than we, the Creator’s creatures; we talk about Heaven, which transcends in every way this created earth; we talk about resurrection, which is a mode of human being that overcomes and transcends mortality; we talk about eternal life as something that is both like and unlike temporary life and, precisely because it is eternal, transcends it. We say that what is bound on earth is bound in heaven.
