Sister Thao clothed as a Novice at Mount Saint Mary's Abbey

Mount Saint Mary’s Abbey, Wrentham, Massachusetts-

On the solemnity of Corpus Christi, June 12, 2023, the community gathered in the Chapter room for the clothing ceremony of postulant Thao. Thao read her petition, written in her own words, followed by a talk given by Mother Sofia, after which she was invited to be clothed in the novice’s habit – the white robe, scapular, belt, veil, and cloak. This step brings her into a deeper phase of discerning her vocation. As a novice, she will learn about Cistercian life through classes in Scripture, Cistercian patrimony, monastic history, and the vows. More importantly, she will begin to integrate the Cistercian life in a personal and practical way through prayer, ascesis, growth in self-knowledge, and participation in the life of the community. She should continue to develop humanly and spiritually, growing in a personal relationship with Christ, and in a realistic acceptance of and love for her fellow sisters. Let us pray for Sr. Thao as she continues along the monastic path!
